My Humble Initiative
If I could have such a thing as a mission statement or manifesto, it would be to look at every new opportunity or challenge with an open and peaceful mind.
I used to approach every situation from a place of fear and anxiety. People around me would say that I appeared cool and calm in the moment, but I only hid it well. I was secretly carrying my frustration and self criticism in my neck and shoulders to the point of pain.
Then after my years of facing death from cancer and enduring the agony of treatment I found a new meaning in the word ‘humble’. For me the secret of ‘The Humble Initiative’ is that it seeks to remind me that, what I currently have to offer, is enough. Being content and humble, is a position of confidence and strength.
Being humble, doesn’t mean that you deny yourself of joy, or accept less because you don’t deserve more. For me, it simply takes away the fear criticism. I promise to do my humble best, regardless of the task. I am not in competition with anyone, especially not my own ego. If I need to learn or adapt my knowledge or skills to fit a new situation, so be it.
Most importantly, it’s OK that I am no longer my former self. The old me did his best for years and fought hard for his family. I will always love him for that. However, he’s now on a desert island listening to his favourite mixtapes for all eternity. I hope to receive a postcard from him a some point, but if I don’t that’s just fine too.
Nudge
