A Daily Mantra To Reprogram Your Thoughts
I’m unsure why, but it is common for people to be rather hard on themselves. Throughout my therapy sessions over the last five years, negative self-talk has been a stubborn and unhealthy trait of mine. Meditation has often been suggested as a healthy exercise to perform.
What is the real power of meditation?
Meditation lets you become more aware and more purposeful about your actions. It teaches you how to respond, rather than react, to situations in your life. Meditation sounds simple. But it takes discipline to remain still in body and mind.
Meditation - Here's how to do it.
The general idea is to sit comfortably with your eyes closed, and imagine what you wish for your life. Formulate your desires into three or four phrases. Traditionally they would be something like this:
May I be healthy and strong. May I be happy. May I be filled with ease.
Loving-kindness meditation is a simple repetition of kindness using simple phrases. You visualize and direct your attention towards peace and happiness.
Start by directing the following phrases at yourself:
- May I be happy.
- May I be well.
- May I be safe.
- May I be peaceful and at ease.
When you are ready:
- Direct your meditation sessions towards someone you feel thankful for or someone who has helped you.
- Then towards someone you feel neutral about—people you neither like nor dislike.
- Think of people you don't like or who you are having a hard time dealing with.
- Finally, direct your attention towards everyone universally: May all beings everywhere, be happy.
My best wishes for you on your journey.
